70% of wealthy families lose their wealth by the second generation. 90% by the third. That’s according to a 20-year study by The Williams Group of over 3,000 wealthy families.

On top of that, only 28% of Gen Z and Millennials say they feel fully prepared by their education to make financial decisions according to a March 2026 survey by Beyond Finance in partnership with Operation HOPE.

Most parents want to raise kids who are good with money. The problem is that most of us weren’t taught this stuff either. We figured it out as adults (sometimes the hard way) and now we’re supposed to pass down something we were never given.
On episode five of the Dad Math Podcast, your host Zachary Mineur, CFA, CFP® is joined by Chelsea Mineur, Zach’s sister and the Marketing Director at Independence Square Advisors, to talk about the foundations of financial literacy and how to raise kids who are good with money.
They get into when to start, how to handle allowance without creating entitlement, what to do when your kid blows their money and comes back for more, and what parents can do to prepare their kids before they leave home.
